Week 3 : Articulating my argument

1)My argument is that social network service(SNS) makes people feel loneliness.
I want to argue that the SNS makes people feel loneliness. The program such as Facebook, Tweeter, instargram can communicate with others. But "Forty two per cent of Australians who used an average of four methods of technology to communicate (such as email, SMS, Facebook, Twitter) were lonely compared with 11 per cent of people who used only one," says Sue Miller, a manager at Relationships Australia Queensland.

2)How I found my argument
http://www.abc.net.au/health/thepulse/stories/2011/11/03/3353184.htm
My first research was "Is technology making us lonely?" Through this site I had know some informentions. "The quality of online communication is impoverished in comparison with the physical, real world face-to-face communication," says Dr Catriona Morrison, an experimental psychologist at the University of Leeds in England who has studied the link between depression and internet addiction.  "You often don't hear someone's voice and you don't see any body signals, which we know from traditional psychology are important." Like this, when we communicate with others, we have to use our voice(tone, speed, accent) and body(gesture, face expression) together, but the SNS just can use text. So it is the failed communication.

3) New research questions
still need to know
-how many people feel loneliness because of SNS?
-how can I solve the failed communication cause of SNS?
-what is the other reason for the loneliness because of SNS?
my reseach plan
I will continue use google to get information about SNS makes people lonely. Also I want to use examples to explan my argument.

4) Connections to the Harvard Sampler
This argument has many connections to  the Havardoth Smpler, especialy the with the "Human mind".  First, when we communicate with others, we use our visual and hearing. Without these sence of  bobily sensation, the communication will become failed. It prove that the human mind have a lot of influence on communication.

  1. This is a really interesting articulation. I think the idea that a social networking site - a tool designed to connect people - might actually isolate them.
